Serves as key administrative officer for BSOE, oversees analysis and policy development for issues and processes. Develops, modifies, and executes organizational policies which affect immediate operations.
Advises Dean, Chairs and other senior managers on strategic school-wide matters.
Interacts with higher-level management, colleagues and BSOE leadership on controversial situations, complex negotiations or other non-routine matters.
STRATEGIC ACADEMIC PLANNING:
In collaboration with the BSOE leadership team, performs strategic academic planning including development of new academic programs (state funded, PDST and self-supporting), and coordination of the FTE call and CLP call.
Manages the academic analytics team.
STRATEGIC SPACE PLANNING:
Assesses needs and develop short- and long-range space plans to support six academic departments and a growing number of research units. FY19 space totals 179,000 ASF spread over five buildings on the main campus and two satellite campuses.
Works directly with Campus Capital Planning staff, chairs and research directors to negotiate development and assignment of space.
Manages, plans and administers administrative and instructional support operations of the Baskin School of Engineering including the Dean’s Office, Business Office, Research Administration, Facilities, Baskin Engineering Lab Support and Staff Human Resources.
Makes decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures achievement of objectives (e.g., operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources, IT and space planning) that have school-wide impact.
Instills strong management practices among subordinate managers.
Extensive experience with academic planning and management in higher education.
Excellent leadership abilities to oversee multiple functions through subordinate managers.
Excellent ability to establish metrics for school, units, and employee goals.
Thorough knowledge of financial analysis; human resources and risk management planning; research administration; space and facilities management.

About Baskin School of Engineering, Univ of CA Santa Cruz
The Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE), the first professional school at UC Santa Cruz, was founded in 1997. Over the past 20 years, BSOE has become a unique 21st century school of engineering and technology. BSOE comprises six departments that deliver a strong educational foundation combined with experiential learning and numerous research centers and institutes that engage in cutting-edge research. The departments comprise Applied Mathematics, Biomolecular Engineering, Computational Media, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Statistics. In 2018-19, BSOE has an annual $27M budget, 103 faculty FTE and 140 administrative, technical and research support staff. In Fall 2018, BSOE served 4,374 undergraduate majors (24% of campus total undergrads), 257 masters and 348 PhD students (31% of campus grads).
The Assistant Dean is a principal member of the Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE) leadership team for strategic academic planning and implementation of school-wide activities and initiatives. This team includes the Dean, Associate Dean of Graduate Affairs, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs, Associate Dean of Research, and Special As...sistant to the Dean. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Assistant Dean has direct oversight for the resource operations including financial and personnel management, research administration, academic analytics, facilities, and undergraduate instructional labs (BELS). The Assistant Dean also serves as the Chief of Staff for BSOE.
