Offices reporting to VP for Business/Controller: Business Office, facilities, security
Description: The Vice President for Business/Controller is a new position reflective of the size and complexity of the school, and the expected benefits of significant utilization of technology to support the operational/transactional work of the business office. The candidate selected will have almost a year of overlap with the current Controller who has been at Iliff for over 20 years. This time will provide the opportunity to learn and understand the operational/transactional workings of the business office, evaluate the ability of technology to streamline workflow, understand the cycle of work that needs to be completed, and see how work is prioritized given limited staff. The role and responsibilities as Vice President will be as assigned by the President. The selected candidate will be expected to be a self-starter, capable of developing and bringing financial or facility information and analysis for executive decision-making. Both short term and long term projects will be part of the portfolio, calling on the selected candidate to work efficiently and meet deadlines. Presentation skills will be an important part of this position.
Reports to: President and Chief Executive Officer of the Iliff School of Theology and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Summary duties as relates to Vice President for Business responsibilities:
Advise the President on financial and facility matters that require executive action and/or Board involvement.
Prepare materials in support of financial, facility issues/problems/opportunities and make necessary presentations
Develop an on-going set of strategic indicators/metrics that support long range planning and decision making along with other members of the Senior Leadership team
Develop, along with the President, annual budgets that meet the needs of the institution, and provide regular budget updates
Plan and implement, with technical assistance, the maximum use of technology to support operational/transactional needs of the business office and information for long range planning and decision making.
Implement the decisions made by executive leadership and the Iliff Board as relates to finances and facilities.
Develop the knowledge to insure that Iliff is supported, in the areas of finance and facilities, with the expertise that is needed to meet the needs of the institution.
Foster skill development and enhanced capabilities among staff, and recognition of the contributions of others in the organization.
Ensure the day to day responsibilities of the offices reporting to this position are being met and done in an effective, efficient and courteous and helpful manner
Take on duties as assigned by the President
Summary duties as relates to Controller responsibilities:
Oversee internal accounting controls to meet School’s accounting standards and generally accepted accounting principles, and comply with federal, state and local reporting requirements
Keep informed of regulatory requirements of all levels of government and all necessary filing
Supervise all audits and related audit activity and insure necessary filings as well as surveys and annual Colorado Periodic report
Prepare School financial records for monthly and annual close process, as well as timely budget analysis and financial review for executive leadership and the Board
File all necessary tax reports and monitor annuities and ensure timely payments
Maintain property and casualty insurance information, including completion of various forms
Perform reconciliations of bank and investment statements, and reporting of restricted and designated fund balances
Supervise staff and insure effective, efficient operation and support the School’s objectives
Degree in accounting or finance
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an institution of higher education
Ability to be effective at a Vice Presidential level
Experience with accounting and related software
Adequate skills to deal with typical higher education business issues and preparation/analysis of information
Internal or external audit experience
Business software skills
Work is performed in an office environment, with access to adjustable seated or standing desk.
Primarily stationary position for office work.
Must be able to communicate with various stakeholders via one-to-one and group in-person gatherings telephone, email, etc.
