The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the shared services organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges located in Southern California. Job Description: Essential Functions
Maintains college general ledgers in accordance with GAAP and higher education industry practices;
Prepares and analyzes financial reports;
Builds and maintains positive working relationships with college customers, office personnel and others;
Maintains and evaluates internal controls and key processes;
Coordinates the annual audit and regulatory filings.
Implements and monitors systems that ensure accurate, timely and responsive financial recording and reporting.
Takes leadership in disseminating information and provides advice and counsel for constituencies.
Recruits, selects and retains staff that has professional capabilities and has the capacity to work effectively in an environment with changing requirements.
Provides ongoing coaching to subordinates which is balanced, constructive, timely and contributes to an atmosphere of open communication and trust.
Conducts annual written performance appraisals for all staff. Conducts a 90-day introductory period review for all new employees.
Communicates job requirements to subordinates and assures that subordinates have the appropriate training and development to complete tasks. Ensures that job descriptions in area are current and recommends changes as needed.
Develops and maintains a collaborative team dedicated to serving the changing needs of the customer and the Financial Services Office.
Addresses employee work habit and performance problems in a timely manner with appropriate follow up.
Provides timely data that reflects the needs of each constituent.
Monitors all financial transactions and reports processed in areas of responsibility to ensure compliance with institutional guidelines, generally accepted accounting principles and federal and state regulations.
Maintains an understanding of constituent's business issues, practices and policies through regular communication with appropriate personnel.
Provides advice and counsel to constituents regarding reports to ensure that relevant information is available, understood, necessary, and useful.
Maintains capacity of team and ensures availability of personnel to perform the work by through allocation of responsibilities and/or cross training.
Establishes and/or maintains internal control procedures which ensure appropriate checks and balances to fulfill legal and ethical responsibilities.
Conducts training for constituents to increase appropriate use of services.
Establishes and maintains effective monitoring processes that reflect the quality of the service provided.
Assesses potential for improvement of systems and processes, recommends and implements changes where appropriate. Demonstrates a forward thinking perspective and embraces process improvement.
Maintains sub-ledger accounting systems in areas of responsibility (where appropriate)

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge and Critical Skills

Ability to share knowledge and information and to learn new tasks
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, with demonstrated strong skills in Excel

Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver License and a DMV record that meets the requirement set by the College's insurance carrier
Thorough knowledge of GAAP
Accounting experience in a non-profit organization or institution of higher education, and/or CPA or auditing experience.
Preferred Knowledge and Critical Skills
Proficiency in various accounting software systems and other information technology and the ability to learn new software
Experience and knowledge of Workday
The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
