The University of Connecticut (UConn), Office of Audit and Management Advisory Services (AMAS), is seeking to hire a Data Analyst to focus on driving data analytic efforts that support internal audits, special projects, and the development of a continuous auditing program. This position serves as the primary data analytics support for AMAS and requires knowledge and experience of business applications, data analytics, and data analysis tools and techniques.
The Data Analyst will aid in the development of a data analytics strategy for AMAS and will provide data analytics support as well as collaborating with AMAS leadership and other departments throughout the University and UConn Health to identify, design, and execute data analytics in support of audits and special projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports internal audits by developing data analytics, including the extraction of data, to analyze large and complex volumes of data from various sources to identify anomalies and trends.
Provides concise data reports and analyses and clear data visualizations using standard industry tools.
Designs and executes audit queries based on specifications requested by auditors in support of ongoing audits and projects.
Analyzes and leverages existing data analytic tools.
Designs and develops continuous auditing and controls monitoring tools and dashboards associated with key operational processes to aid in risk identification and reporting.
Develops fraud detection tools, based upon knowledge of core systems and detection tools, such as Benford’s Law.
Conducts research on and recommends emerging data analytics technologies and processes to enhance the audit process and increase operational efficiency.
Consults and networks with information technology professionals throughout the University and Health Center to develop leading practices and synergies of audit data analytics tactics, techniques, and procedures.
Understands and keeps abreast of industry-specific and relevant data analytics trends, techniques, and leading practices.
Acts as a data analytics technical resource to AMAS as well as train AMAS team members in the use of data analytic tools and techniques.
Develops strong product deliverables, including reports and dashboards with relevant information.
Performs related duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science or related field.
Two years’ relevant experience in data analytics, systems analysis, or data warehousing.
Ability to work independently with little or minimal supervision to complete agreed upon tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail.
Professionalism in working with confidential and sensitive matters.
Proficient with MS Office Suite, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
A positive, can-do attitude.
Solid background in communicating analytical findings through concise and clear written and verbal communication skills.
Master’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science or related field.
Three-plus years’ relevant experience in the extraction and analysis of relevant business data using data analytic and visualization tools such as ACL, IDEA, SQL, and Tableau.
Relevant experience in higher education or healthcare.
In-depth knowledge of core IT systems such as Epic.
Strong knowledge and experience developing and delivering data analytics and continuous auditing and monitoring programs.
