The George Mason University General Accounting Department invites applicants for a Senior Accountant position. The Senior Accountant performs a wide variety of complex analytical and administrative duties to support financial analysis, trending, and reporting. Responsibilities:
Assist in monthly reporting, including variance analysis and transaction research;
Provide data analytics to support development of financial trending and modeling projects and reports;
Gather and analyze financial information from Banner, Cardinal, and MicroStrategy reports;
Assist in preparing the University's annual external financial statements and other financial reports as needed;
Provide support for maintenance of the Banner Finance Chart of Accounts;
Support and serve as back up for other positions in the department as needed.
Exceptional advanced Excel skills, data analytics and financial modeling experience;
Strong analytical abilities combined with a focus on thoroughness and quality of information;
Knowledge of financial accounting principles;
Skilled using complex accounting systems such as Banner; reporting systems such as MicroStrategy; Microsoft applications such as Excel, and other software;
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent level of training and experience.
Certified Public Accountant;
Experience analyzing accounting data and processes in a large organization;
Higher Education accounting experience, preferably in a public institution.
