The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The successful candidate will provide leadership for all areas of Academic Affairs, including academic programs, academic budget development and resource allocation, faculty recruitment and retention, enrollment management, institutional and program assessment, library services, and youth outreach programs. The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs reports directly to the University President and is the president’s senior advisor on all matters relating to academic administration. The position serves on the Executive Council and University Cabinet and is the senior executive in charge of the campus in the absence of the President. Additionally, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the institutional representative to the state-wide Academic Affairs Council for the South Dakota Board of Regents.
The successful applicant will possess an earned doctorate in engineering, science, mathematics or a closely related discipline from an accredited university and have a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship. In addition, the candidate should have
At least five years of successful senior academic administrative experience, preferably at the Dean level or higher;
Understanding of the interrelationship of academic and administrative units in a public university;
A record of success and significant experience in academic program development, competitive research, assessment, accreditation, enrollment management, technology implementation, and faculty development;
The desire and ability to work collaboratively and innovatively in a team-oriented work environment;
The experience and ability to resolve administrative problems with discretion and good judgment;
Strong interpersonal, supervisory, mentoring and communication skills;
A commitment to fostering excellence in research and teaching;
The ability to make data-driven decisions within resource limitations;
Demonstrated understanding of donor development and familiarity with a capital campaign; and
A demonstrated commitment to diversity in hiring, including affirmative action and equal opportunity.
