Executive Director, University Audit
The University of Southern CaliforniaâsÂ (USC)Â Office of Audit Services is seeking anÂ Executive Director of University Audit to assist in executing the internal audit program for the University. Reporting to the Associate Senior Vice President of Audit Services, the Executive Director will drive the internal audit plan for the academic side of the university including providing senior management with information and guidance regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of the Universityâs system of internal administrative and accounting controls, adherence with university policies and procedures, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and the quality of operating performance when compared to established standards.Â
Specific/Additional Accountabilities Include:
Serves as a leader in the Universityâs internal audit team assisting in the development and completion of the internal audit plan and other associated projects while collaborating with Senior Management, Operating Management, and others throughout the university.
Interfaces with management to ensure effective communication of internal audit plans, schedules and issues, and provides third party IA co-source partners with feedback and organizational insights.
Determines scope and audit procedures for internal auditing projects and monitors and tracks disposition of audit findings and corrective action.
Effectively manages both internal and external resources to complete projects in a timely, efficient and effective manner.
Creates internal audit reports; analyzes and evaluates the necessity versus cost/practicality of controls; assesses recommendations to ensure compliance with the Universityâs policies and procedures, GAAP, and applicable laws and regulations. Makes and discusses recommendations and resulting ramifications with management related to the function under review.
Performs special investigations related to matters involving internal administrative and accounting controls, accounting policies and procedures and operating performance, and will provide confidential information to senior management regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of suchÂ programs.

The Ideal Candidate will have:
Minimum of bachelorâs degree in accounting, finance, business or related field; masters level degree preferred (MBA, MAcc, etc.)
Preferred certifications include CPA, CIA, CISA, or other relevant certifications.
8 or more years of experience performing and/or overseeing examination of financial statements, compliance reviews, operational and internal audits, preferably with some experience at a Big 4 firm
5 or more years in leadership experience in managing an audit team and/or experience of managing third party IA co-source partners
Experience with higher education is preferred
Thorough knowledge of management principles and skills to effectively manage an internal audit process and conduct special investigations
Thorough knowledge of GAAP (especially fund accounting)
Experience with automated accounting systems and computer operations including related auditing techniques and security procedures (Workday preferred)
Ability to work effectively and independently in a highly decentralized and diverse environment, responding creatively to the challenges of modifying organizational behavior, while remaining adept in problem formulation and resolution
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels
Excellent stakeholder management and the capability to work and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
An unconventional mindset and the ability to learn, adapt and multi-task within a complex and changing environment
An innovative collaborator able to create and put into practice new ways of helping auditees and the overall university
Experience with privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, GLBA, etc.)
Experience with enterprise risk management is a plus.
Experience in data analysis and reporting tools is a plus.
