Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA is seeking an accomplished senior leader to head Finance serving as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO reports directly to the President and serves on the President’s Cabinet. A current focus is enhancing technology that supports financial and related areas.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Work with the President in the development and implementation of a plan for continued long term financial stability and growth of the College, infrastructure, investments and business continuity • Accurately account for, budget, and report activities of the College’s financial operations ensuring timely financial reports are provided to both external and internal constituencies. • Oversee the financial management of institutional assets including cash, investments, equipment, and buildings. • Liaison with Board of Trustees Finance Committee, investment management firm, and external auditors, • Represent the College in all business dealings including banking, contract negotiations, procurement, and real estate matters. • Develop and manage the overall College budget. • Lead the planning and development of the long term financial administrative systems through the use of technology. • Oversee the day to day operations of the departments of accounting and business services with a staff consisting of Controller, Director of Business Services, Accounts Payable Analyst, and Staff Accountant. • Protect the University’s assets and resources by establishing protocols, standards and policies, and ensuring that risk and insurance are appropriate. • Serve as an integral partner in developing, implementing and monitoring strategic and longer term planning.
The ideal CFO candidate will have:
• At least five years of experience in mid to senior level financial management in a complex environment such as higher education. • An MBA, CPA or equivalent education attainment. • Broad based experience in strategic financial planning, finance and accounting, budgeting, endowment and cash management. • The ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and collegially with the many constituencies to ensure the success of the College. • The ability to work cohesively as part of a senior management team. • Experience with technology in terms of infrastructure planning and administrative systems development. • A ‘hands on’ approach to performing the functions of this position at a small, independent college. • Highest integrity, honesty, and solid judgment with the ability to recognize and appreciate the talents and contributions of others. • Build an environment that values others, acknowledges diversity and works collegially throughout the college. • Business operations experience an asset.
