The Director of Auxiliary Services position at Tidewater Community College provides strong leadership and sound operational management for the auxiliary services programs that support the college’s offerings to students as well as provide alternative revenue streams.
Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Auxiliary Services is responsible for specific auxiliary services programs including the college’s bookstores, food services, vending, exclusive beverage, parking, child care services, college ID cards related to plans, and other future endeavors to achieve appropriate consistency, currency, and excellence in the delivery of services across TCC’s campuses and other locations. The Director of Auxiliary Services works collaboratively with others in the college community to strengthen the auxiliary services available to students while balancing the need to increase resources through those services.
Provide leadership for the development, direction, and management of the college’s auxiliary services operations, including planning, budgeting, directing, supervising, and monitoring the auxiliary services operations, whether contracted services or in-house operations.
Collaborate with the Materiel Management Office and the Shared Services Center to prepare Requests for Proposals for contracted services and participate in vendor selection, negotiations, and contract review to ensure that the requested services will be provided at the desired level of excellence.
Assure compliance with contract terms for all third-party auxiliary services throughout the contract period.
Maintain strong relationships with students, student organizations, student services staff, College administrators, and other campus constituents to ensure that their needs are met by the auxiliary services provided by the college.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with external vendors and constituents.
In collaboration with the college’s Institutional Advancement staff, develop and implement marketing and service campaigns to promote various auxiliary services operations.
Assure compliance with federal, state, and, where applicable, local safety and health regulations in the college’s auxiliary services operations; implement management steps to encourage a safer work environment and reduced work-related employee time lost.
Serve as a member of the Financial Services staff, collaborating with other departments within the division.
Supervise any assigned staff.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Progressively responsible leadership experience in auxiliary services areas including bookstore, food services, vending, ID card management, child care, etc., preferably in a higher education environment with a multi-campus setting.
Proven ability to negotiate, finalize, and monitor complex contractual agreements.
Proven ability to supervise either in-house or contractual auxiliary service functions.
Demonstrated knowledge of community college goals and objectives, of its diverse students and employees, and of their auxiliary services needs.
Proven ability to work with diverse external constituents and to develop strong relationships with them.
Proven ability to work as a team player, appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude, and a collegial spirit.
Demonstrated ability to write clearly and articulately and communicate effectively.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, ID Card databases/software preferably CBord’s CS Gold, and electronic communications.
Ability to interpret and apply college policies and procedures.
Ability to resolve issues, resulting in mutual respect and tolerance for varying points of view.
Demonstrated skill in managing budgets, equipment, and other institutional resources.
Master’s degree in business, management, finance, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
