James Madison University has an outstanding opportunity for an Internal Audit Manager to join the Office of Audit and Management Services. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Internal Audit and is part of a dynamic team that is supported by the Audit Committee of the Board of Visitors and conforms to Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards.
A successful candidate is expected to possess high standards of ethics and integrity, demonstrate professional behavior, and uphold the core values of the University. The position requires the ability to absorb and process new information quickly, show initiative and work independently as well as be part of a team while utilizing strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills and sound professional judgment.
Performing financial, operational, and compliance audits and special projects that consist of conducting risk assessments, planning engagements, setting audit scope, analyzing processes, documenting and evaluating controls, developing audit programs, executing fieldwork, drafting audit reports, and performing follow-up reviews.
Assisting in the development and implementation of the annual audit plan
Developing, coaching, and mentoring staff and senior auditors
Building and maintaining strong working relationships internally and with other departments.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Computer Information Systems, or another closely related field.
Professional certification such as CPA or CIA, or evidence of progress towards achieving certification.
Two or more years of experience in internal auditing and/or public accounting.
General knowledge of information technology.
Expertise with Microsoft Office products.
Strong verbal and impeccable written communication skills.
Knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing,
Analytical skills, creative problem-solving abilities, curiosity, and a sense of humor.
Experience auditing in a university setting.
Experience with PeopleSoft, data analytics, and/or automated workpapers.
Risk assessment and/or consulting experience.
Advanced degree in a related field.
Knowledge of general information technology controls.
