Nevada State College (NSC) invites applications for the position of Director of Operations and Strategic Planning. As a direct report to the Senior Vice President of Finance and Business Operations (SVP), the Director serves in a Chief of Staff role to the SVP and as a member of the Division's leadership team. The individual in this role works with the leadership team and other key leaders at the College in developing, prioritizing and executing the mission, vision, strategies and core initiatives related to the division. The incumbent acts as a liaison with both internal and external constituents, playing a key role in the identification, solution analysis and implementation of strategic goals and policy development. The individual also supervises and manages the daily operations and staff within the SVP's office, campus auxiliary services and procurement, and oversees special projects involving large numbers of collaborators and human- and fiscal-resource investments.

Planning and Project Management
Provide principal management support to the Senior Vice President and assure seamless function and running of the office. This may include generating various reports, coordinating research, projects, monitoring the flow of critical contractual documents, and directing the allocation of resources for project/special initiative funding
Acting as a Chief of Staff, facilitates the ability of the Senior Vice President to manage executive functions by advising the SVP regarding key constituencies and providing context and background information on issues
Serves as the intermediary for the SVP handling inquiries. Researches and resolves problems. Responds to and meets with a broad range of individuals or groups, frequently related to matters that require immediate resolution and follow-up
Represent the SVP and act as liaison with other College leaders. Provide a high level of integration and alignment with the College's leadership team paying particular attention to quarterly and yearly divisional goals and outcomes
Oversee and direct a broad range of high-level projects including strategic planning, implementation, and coordination of selected initiatives. Work with the SVP to coordinate aspects of projects for which the SVP is responsible. Communicate with involved parties to ensure a clear definition of roles and timely completion of tasks
Participate in or lead key stakeholder meetings to ensure appropriate and responsive follow-up and accountability. Ensure the priorities of the SVP are acted upon and provide a strong link between FBO and other divisions and units on campus. Independently identify and address issues as they arise and bring them to the SVP's attention for input or resolution as needed
Informs and manages the policy development, approval, and implementation process. Identifies areas of key policy deficiencies and coordinates development with the appropriate campus stakeholders. Research, interpret and apply Board, System and institutional policies and statutory regulations as they pertain to College operations
Oversee contracted campus auxiliary services, including food services and bookstore. Work directly with vendors to ensure that campus needs are being met. Strategize to increase profitability, efficiency, and satisfaction with services. Identify and investigate contract/billing/service issues and resolve as identified. Responsible for contract renewal and solicitations. Lead the campus Dining Services committee
Additional Areas of Supervision
Directly supervise the NSC Procurement Specialist and work collaboratively to create NSC-specific, but system- and best practice- compliant, policies and training documentation around purchasing thresholds, procedures, inventory maintenance, and selecting and negotiating with vendors. Ensure a seamless transition between campus-based purchasing and the regional purchasing office (NSHE Business Center South)
Supervise the division's Administrative Assistant. Collaborate on coordination of key meetings and create agendas, reports and presentation materials as required
Represent the Division of Finance and Business Operations by actively participating in committees within the college and in the community
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President of Finance and Business Operations
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Business, Communication, Organizational Leadership, or other related discipline
3 years of years of experience in process improvement with increasing levels of responsibility
3 years of experience supervising or leading teams
Excellent skills in critical thinking, judgment and decision making with a strong attention to detail
Strong ability to work with personnel at all levels and foster collaboration
Strong ability to work with, manage and report financial and budgetary data
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Intermediate skill in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Demonstrated ability to set priorities and to plan, organize, coordinate and direct multiple projects and activities with varied deadlines
Demonstrated understanding of the organization, administration, and management of an educational institution or business of comparable size and complexity
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (NSC does not sponsor employment-related visas)

Salary & Benefits
Budgeted salary range for this position is $80,000. Nevada State College offers excellent benefits, including 15.50% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 11 paid holidays, educational benefits, and the choice of three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
