The State University of New York at Old Westbury is seeking an Assistant Vice President Business Operations. This is a full-time, 12-month, Management Confidential position.
Under the direction of the Vice President for Business & Finance and Chief Financial Officer, the incumbent will direct areas in the Business & Finance Division. These areas include:
Purchasing - responsible for directing Purchasing Department operations, procuring goods and services for SUNY Old Westbury in accordance with applicable policies, regulations, and guidelines. This includes supervision of purchasing staff who coordinate a customer-driven efficient operation. In addition, the incumbent will manage a planned transition to an e-procurement system.
Internal Control - responsible for supervising the Internal Control Officer, performing campus-wide compliance reviews to ensure that the college's resources are protected and are aligned with the college's goals. In addition, office coordinates vendor-initiated contracts review and approval. This office also ensures employees receive appropriate training in internal controls as it completes reporting requirements for the State of New York.
Operation Manager (OM) - working with the Research Foundation for SUNY, incumbent is responsible for regulatory compliance and financial performance of the college's sponsored programs grants and overall approval of fiscal and administrative operations. Currently managing approximately $2M in public and private grants, this position supports the college's mission to grow research dollars and continue to increase the grants program to support the student experience.
Auxiliary Service Corporation - responsible for day-to-day and overall operation of the corporation and its staff as it manages multiple college-wide operations and systems, developing revenue generating programs and providing support to the college's mission. This non-academic concern delivers services and programs to the college community and continues to research new ideas to enhance the quality of life for the Old Westbury community.
Facility Rentals - responsible for supervising staff performing rentals of various facilities in an effort to maximize utilization of space on campus while generating revenue. This office meets external organizations, executes agreements, and manages successful events on campus, while presenting an excellent customer service attitude.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Business Administration, Business, Finance or related fields.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of full-time progressive experience in business or financial environment, preferably in educational, governmental, or not-for-profit institutions.
- A minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience in mid-to-executive level management positions. Strong ability to supervise and develop personnel.
- Proven ability to manage and direct multiple, unrelated areas in a public institution setting.
- Knowledge and experience in public purchasing, with tested understanding of regulations and processes and ability to successfully manage large, complex procurements.
- Strong knowledge of finance, contracts, and general business operations.
- Experience in administering grants, abiding by regulations and compliance issues.
- Excellent communication and PC skills.
- Proven track record of fantastic customer service and service assessments and improvements.
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial background in business with a goal towards revenue generation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven background in performing assessments on staff and operations.
- Experience in investigative or auditing financial and operational areas.
- Certified public purchasing.
- SUNY or CUNY purchasing or regulatory background and experience.
