The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for an Associate Director for Administration with the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. The function of the Associate Director for Administration is to serve as the Chief Financial Officer for the Beckman Institute and provide leadership of the core administrative functions (finance, grants and contracts, human resources, information technology services, café, and facilities and operations) in direct support of the Director of the Beckman Institute. Provide the leadership, management and the vision necessary to ensure that the Beckman Institute has the proper processes, administrative structure and reporting procedures and systems in place to operate effectively and to ensure financial strength.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Serve as a member of the Beckman Institute’s executive leadership team, representing the Director in matters affecting the administration of the Beckman Institute.
- Serve as the Chief Financial Officer for the Beckman Institute and be responsible for financial planning, record-keeping, budgeting, financial reporting, and providing assistance with strategic planning and Beckman Institute review documents.
Administrative Leadership:
- Provide oversight of the Business Affairs activities, including finance, grants and contracts (pre- and post-award).
- Provide oversight of the Human Resources activities including policy and systems development and appointment processing.
- Provide oversight of the information technology services, including collaborative development of IT systems for improving business procedures and supporting decision-making by the Director and Associate Directors.
- Provide oversight of the Beckman Institute facilities operations, including the building attendants, shipping and receiving, security, Facilities and Services personnel assigned to the Beckman Institute, and all building maintenance and renovation.
- Provide oversight of the Beckman Institute café.
- Provide oversight of the Beckman Institute Space Reservations.
- Supervise, direct workflow, prepare job descriptions, and complete performance evaluations for the Director of Budget and Resource Planning, the Director of Information Technology Services, Director of Human Resources, Administrative Aide, the Beckman Café Food Services Administrator, and the Director of Facilities.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight of the Beckman Foundation gift fund budgeting and expenditures, including responsibility for the annual report to the Beckman Foundation.
- Develop, recommend, and implement changes in policies and procedures to meet the administrative needs of the Beckman Institute.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with eight years of business administrative experience or a Master’s degree with four years of business administrative experience.
- Business administrative experience that includes providing financial support services in a large, complex organizational environment with a research mission (such as a university, government research laboratory, or industrial research firm).
Preferred Qualifications:
- A degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field
- Demonstrated leadership experience working collaboratively in an organizationally complex and culturally diverse higher education setting.
- Demonstrated experience working with a variety of research funding types, including grants from federal agencies and private foundations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of or experience in at least one aspect of facility operations, such as building operations and maintenance, information technology services or food services.
- Demonstrated experience using HR and financial modules in BANNER.
- Proficiency creating and utilizing reports using Business Objects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
- Familiarity with the administrative policies and procedures of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is preferred.
