The incumbent of this position will serve as the Financial Officer for the College of Arts & Architecture, reporting directly to the Director of Financial Officers with a secondary reporting line to the Dean of the college. The College of Arts & Architecture is working to establish a culture of anti-racism and anti-oppression that embraces individual identities, fosters a culture of inclusion, and promotes equity through curricula, values, standards, ideals, policies, and practices. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of their experience with, and interest in, contributing to these goals. This position is expected to interact heavily with the dean and key leaders within the college as well as the financial coordinators in all departments.
The Financial Officer will provide leadership in management of financial and budget execution matters for the Dean, as well as for departments, schools, engagement units, and institutes within the college. Duties include regular financial analysis and reporting, management of all general funds, including revenue generating units, and restricted funds management. This position has oversight of financial aspects of post-award research administration, financial stewardship, budget execution, policy and procedure interpretation, guidance, and compliance. Responsibilities for this position also include management of financial systems and related approvals, monitoring budgets to ensure planned resources are available, and coordination of internal audits and risk assessments. This position will also serve as the liaison to central University offices in the areas of finance, payroll, risk management, purchasing and others as needed. The successful candidate will also supervise, evaluate and train assigned staff.
Candidates should demonstrate advanced excel skills and knowledge in financial and budget management, analysis and forecasting, and financial reporting. Experience with enterprise systems technologies and products such as SIMBA (System for Integrated Management, Budgeting, and Accounting) (SAP/S4HANA), Concur, Workday, Oracle Business Intelligence (BI), and MS Office 365 is desirable. This position requires a high degree of self-direction, including the ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines at short notice, strong leadership skills, the ability to lead and manage teams, and a strong commitment to inclusionary practices which support diversity throughout the University. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are required, as well as the ability to use advanced accounting and management software, and communication skills to persuade and influence a variety of people to achieve results. Ability to manage complex problems crossing multiple functional areas ranging from policy/procedural issues, risk/legal matters, confidentiality, and negotiations is essential.
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Due to the financial or fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
