This position is responsible and accountable for developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting the financial position of Rush University Medical Center. The Manager will supervise, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the day to day accounting activity of the organization.
This position managers the day to day operations of the General Accounting department including timely processing of journal entries, financial statement preparation, management and leadership of the staff, maintain high internal controls and safeguards company assets in accordance with company policies. This role also supports continued process improvement, assists in managing projects which drive efficiency and productivity through the department and creates an environment of continued growth and development of staff and resources. This role will also lead the Fixed Asset team in the monthly financial close and transaction processing of fixed assets and capital project accounting for Rush University Medical Center(RUMC) and Rush Oak Park Hospital(ROPH).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Manager roles and responsibilities:

Supervises, trains, and oversees operational work flow of General Accounting and Fixed Asset staff (5-7 employees)

Prepares Key Indicator Metrics Report.

Prepare and review various Financial Reports generated on a monthly basis.

Reviews internal Financial Statements each month.

Coordinate the month end, quarterly and year end closing process including the close of various subledger systems.

Review the investment roll-forward quarterly to be used in MD&A reporting.

Review schedule for alternative investment returns for quarterly MD&A reporting.

Review FAS117-1 Footnote for both MD&A reporting and year-end audit report.

Review FAS157 compilation for both MD&A and year-end reporting.

Review Pledge Receivable Analysis and roll-forward.

Review Net Asset Roll-forward for quarterly MD&A and year-end audit report..

Prepare various Government surveys both quarterly and yearly.

Manage the accounting activities related to project accounting including setup, tracking and capitalization of projects.

Responsible for the ownership and management of the fixed asset process including the addition, depreciation, updating and retirement of assets.

Oversee that assets are placed in service timely to begin depreciation in accordance with GAAP and RUMC Capital Policy.

Drive constant communications with all RUMC and ROPH stakeholders to maintain control and tracking of the direct capital and capital projects, ensuring accurate and timely capitalization of open projects and capital equipment

Establish, maintain and consistently implement policies and procedures to ensure that internal controls are operating effectively.

Identify and communicate risks and issues impacting financial areas of responsibilities.

Ensure understanding of transactional flow through various systems to monitor and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Ensure journal entries and resulting financial statements accounts are stated in accordance with GAAP.

Coordinate the timely and accurate preparation of the monthly financial statements, quarterly and annual financial reporting, consolidated financials and other reports or analysis as needed.

Monitors and thoroughly reviews the account reconciliations on a monthly basis to ensure account balances are appropriate.

Provide other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required.
Other Duties:

Review Staff Accountant¡¦s reconciliations, external billing aging reports, ect.

Review Investment journal entries and ensure investments and fixed assets tie to general ledger monthly.

Review expense entries in general ledger and reclassify to the prepaid account when appropriate.

Provide schedules and analysis to external auditors for interim and year-end audits
Job Requirements:
- BS in Accounting/Finance
- Five years of work related experience
- CPA/MBA Preferred
- Demonstrates advanced GAAP knowledge and the ability to research complex accounting issues and standards
- Knowledge of ERP systems, financial reporting and an ability to work closely with internal and external auditors
- Management or supervisory experience preferred
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and multitasking abilities.
- Highly motivated, self- confident individual with a desire to learn and improve.
- Utilize computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting activities;
- Communicate effectively through oral and written mediums.
- Advanced level of in MS Excel and other Microsoft products such as Word, Powerpoint and Outlook
