Job Summary
This position serves as Director and strategic leader for the Department of Facility Services. This position has responsibility for the development and management of an approximately $15 million dollar operational budget and a staff of approximately 225 FTE. Facility Services is responsible for all aspects of the physical facilities and grounds on campus, including upkeep of the physical environment, heating and chilling operations, maintenance and improvement of the campus building infrastructure, remodeling and renovation of facilities, and mail services. Off-hour and weekend response may be necessary for emergency issues.
The Director functions as a campus leader, advisor to the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC), for Facilities Planning & Management, and campus contact for physical facilities issues.
The Director serves as a model for the entire department by offering excellent service to the campus community, while providing opportunity and environments conducive to promoting
the professional development, growth and positive morale of all employees in the department.

The starting salary for this role will be between $120,000 and $140,000 per year, but the final salary offer will be contingent upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities demonstrated throughout the selection process.
As a full-time limited staff the incumbent will earn 176 hours of vacation per fiscal year and granted 176 hours (22 days) of initial entitlement sick leave available for use during the first 18 months of employment (will earn 96 hours (12 days) of sick leave per fiscal year after the initial entitlement period). These numbers are prorated for appointment percentage. Employees will also be granted 36 hours (4.5 days) of personal holiday hours per year and nine legal paid holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for this vacancy must have:
- Degree in architecture, engineering, business, construction management or directly related field or completion of training in a skilled trade
- Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in facility operations, maintenance, and replacement
- Minimum of 5 years Supervisory Experience
- Evidence of strategic planning and process improvement
- Evidence of $5M+ budget management and resource alignment
Preferred Qualifications
Highly qualified candidates will also have:
- Advanced degree in architecture, engineering, business, construction management or directly related field
- Professional Engineering or Architecture License
- Experience in facility operations, maintenance and replacement in an urban university setting
- Demonstrated skills in effective management, conflict resolution and/or team building
- Experience working in facilities management with a public institution or System
- Communication experience in a multifaceted large institution
- Evidence of experience successfully motivating and leading staff and a positive facilities culture
