Associate Director - AuditAbout the OpportunityNortheastern University's Audit & Advisory Services team is seeking a motivated and talented individual to join our team as Associate Director. This position will serve as a trusted leader to the Director and Vice President of Audit & Advisory Services. The Associate Director will supervise two to three audit team members and play an integral role in maintaining an audit team that delivers high quality audit projects. The Associate Director will also be expected to perform audits individually as needed to meet departmental goals and expectations.
Reporting to the Director of Audit & Advisory Services, this position will oversee a range of challenging audit projects. The Associate Director will be responsible for assessing the design and operating effectiveness of the system of internal controls inherent in the processes and activities of the University. This position will oversee audits across the university. Our cross-functional approach enables collaboration between IT, financial, and operational audit areas. In this capacity, the Associate Director will be familiar with the mission of the University and have significant exposure to leadership throughout the organization.
The Associate Director will:
- Provide professional audit work, as a team leader and individually. Assess risks, evaluate internal controls, prepare and execute audit programs for reviews including financial, information technology, and operational processes and systems.
- Exercise professional judgment throughout the audit process including interviews, information gathering, evaluation, recommendation, and report writing phases; use knowledge of the current environment and industry trends to identify potential issues and risks.
- Under minimal supervision, develop clear, concise, accurate and complete audit work papers to support findings and recommendations, and writing clear and concise reports for management.
- Conduct or assist in the performance of special projects or studies, including risk assessments, fraud investigations, audit department policy updates, due diligence acquisition reviews, and more.
Audit work performed must adhere to the Institute of Internal Audit's (IIA) Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
Required Education & Experience- Ten years or more in public accounting, internal auditing, compliance, or related field
- Three years or more of supervisory experience that includes the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and manage others in a wide variety of activities.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field
- Master's Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field is preferred
- Professional Certification as a CIA, CPA, CISA and\or CFE is preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Understanding of the Institute of Internal Auditor's International Professional Practices Framework, COSO Framework, and/or other professional internal control guidance
- Experience with data analytics using Excel, Tableau, Cognos, or PowerBI is preferred
- Project management skills with demonstrated experience in meeting project timelines and deliverables and the ability to handle multiple project assignments simultaneously
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, effective report writing and presentations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a project team
- High professional and ethical standards with the ability to handle confidential information
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interact with stakeholders of any level from all areas of campus as well as external contacts.
