The Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services (ECAS) is located at the systemwide University of California Office of the President (UCOP) and is an independent Regental office that is responsible for developing and administering the UC's compliance and audit programs and thereby ensuring that the University is in compliance with professional standards; internal policies and procedures; and all applicable local, national and international laws and regulations. ECAS provides this support through three core lines of service: Audit Services, Compliance Services and Investigations Services.
The Regents of the University of California established a UC-wide ethics and compliance program in 2006. The program's infrastructure includes a broad cross-section of specific and shared risks and stakeholders from ten UC campuses, five medical centers and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance and Audit Officer (SVP) is the Principal Officer of the Board of Regents of the University of California. The SVP provides communication and updates to the Regents through the Board's Compliance and Audit Committee, or the full Board if required.
This program will appeal to students who wish to apply their talents and interests in communications, marketing and social media to the field of public policy and administration.
ECAS will administer the Marketing in Ethics, Compliance and Audit Internship Program. The intern will develop and implement communications campaigns to promote ECAS to their stakeholders across the UC system, at state and federal agencies, and to the public at large.
ECAS seeks an advanced undergraduate or graduate student to participate in this opportunity. As part of the internship, the intern will carry out specific projects to help promote ECAS' mission to support ethical and compliant behavior throughout the UC system. The intern will lead the development and placement of interesting stories that enhance the public's understanding of ECAS' contributions.
50% Market assessment: Performs PR/marketing assessment of industry leaders and universities and their communication strategies in the areas of ethics, compliance and audit services. Researches and analyzes communication campaigns by the top performers in ethics, compliance and audit services.
30% Marketing: Designs visual graphics while adhering to UCOP branding guidelines. Employs participation survey tools like Qualtrics and Slido. Crafts and edits email newsletters and other means of communication. Assists with managing multi-channel marketing projects and social media campaigns on LinkedIn, Twitter and the like. Explores and develops new ideas for improving the ECAS website and applications of ECAS messaging across the University's compliance, audit and investigation functions, including facilitating engagement with different constituencies, such as students, faculty and staff.
10% Writing: Proofreads writing assignments bridging subject-matter jargon and plain language word choice.
10% Mentorship: Meets with ECAS Leadership and the three teams in ECAS (Audits, Compliance and Investigations) to gain professional development skills. Opportunity to gain from mentorship from seasoned staff members.
Currently enrolled University of California student
Familiarity with the UC system, its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure and current affairs and issues in higher education
Excellent knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications
Ability to develop and execute long and short-term strategic communications on LinkedIn, Twitter, or other applications
Excellent written and verbal communications, active listening and political acumen skills
High school graduate and/or equivalent experience/training.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary: The recommended hiring range is $19.25 to $23.44 per hour, commensurate with skills/experience.
