The University of Iowa is seeking a motivated individual for our Senior Financial Analyst position. This position will perform a broad range of accounting and financial analysis responsibilities to assure effective and compliant organizational, department, and unit operations. The Senior Financial Analyst will provide accurate and timely accounting information that is used to develop reports, conduct financial analysis and planning, and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulations.
Remote work may be considered for this position, depending on the candidate’s location and interest, with the ability to be on campus for training and meetings occasionally. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.
Duties to Include:
Assist with monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports
Prepare reports for accounts payable, salary payable, payroll and benefits withholding payables, other postemployment benefits, pension, compensated absences, unearned revenue, and prepaid expenses.
Assist in the year-end closing of accounts and preparation of consolidated University of Iowa audited financial report.
Assist with annual fringe rate negotiation with Federal Agency.
Develop financial reports from lead sheets and other sources to complete audit schedules, financial report footnotes, management discussion and analysis, and required supplementary information.
Assist with completion of the State of Iowa GAAP package requirements due annually each October.
Prepare and develop multiple annual surveys.
Conduct variance analysis of financial information and prepare and develop annual survey trend analysis with peer’s comparison.
Assist with implementation of financial reporting changes resulting from new and amended Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards.
Serve as function expert/consultant for central University accounting and finance by coordinating, researching, and responding to/advising on questions and comments from departments/units within the University.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Typically, three years accounting and/or financial analysis experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Knowledge of accounting system software and functionality
High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
Desired Qualifications:
Certified Public Accountant
Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance
Advanced query and report development experience utilizing Microsoft Access
Experience with GASB or FASB Standards
Extensive experience in university accounting and financial reporting
Knowledge of/experience with financial cost accounting
