The Associate Bursar works within the Financial Administration Division and will perform professional duties in support of the Bursar’s Office. The successful candidate will assist in the management of the daily operation of the Bursar’s Office by: supervising staff; ensuring efficient and timely collection of University receivables; ensuring proper accounting for all departmental transactions, all charges and credits to bursar accounts, and cashiering functions; researching technical challenges to find a solution. May coordinate activities of a project or project team and assist in monitoring project schedules and cost. Provides adequate documentation and training to users when required. Designs and pulls reports from Banner (Xavier’s ERP) for a variety of uses. Manages eMarkets.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs tuition and fee assessment through Banner by adjusting and harmonizing several hundred lines of rules using various combinations of rate codes, terms, detail codes, programs, majors, departments, student types, class types, campuses, and fee types among a variety of codes and options.
Clearly communicates with numerous other departments to insure the appropriate updating of fees and other charges. Thorough testing is necessary to assure the rules are properly constructed so the process runs smoothly in Production.
Responsible for producing and delivering accurate and timely invoices (eBills) using Banner and CASHNet.
Processes include assessing late fees, adding charges as appropriate, and creating eBills that must be run correctly and in a timely fashion. Interfaces between CASHNet and Banner must be understood to enable the proper communication between the systems to insure correct balances and current due amounts are displayed for customers and to resolve any issues as uncovered.
Responsible for the setup and maintenance of CASHNet’s ePayment site, Installment Payment Plans, Cashiering, and Departmental Deposit modules. This encompasses but is not limited to setting up item codes, operators, departments, term codes, installment payment plans, verbiage on the payment site, in eBills, and in the payment reminders, adjusting the SSL Request URL when and as appropriate, maintaining payment codes, producing reports, helping others use and interpret reports, and performing detailed and complex troubleshooting to resolve issues.
Responsible for all aspects of the Bursar’s Office relating to technology. This includes implementing new time-saving processes, maintaining detail codes, disaster recovery plans, acting as data custodian, reporting, maintaining existing Banner processes, overseeing Banner upgrade testing, and acting as a technical expert addressing problems with system integration, compatibility, and multiple platform integration besides performing feasibility analysis on potential future projects.
eMarket responsibilities include: creating the web presence, customizing the site (within software constraints) to fit the customer’s needs, establishing the accounting structure within the site to insure accurate entries into the G/L, maintaining the site, troubleshooting the site when problems occur, establishing/ maintaining audit controls, responding to customer requests, and developing a strategy to increase the number of eMarkets for the purpose of increasing revenue.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Business and/or Information Technology computer science, information systems, or other related field.
Must be able to successfully manage large amounts of data.
Strong technical aptitude with excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Excel and Word.
Proven experience working as a liaison between functional areas and IT, and project management experience.
Excellent customer service skills.
Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to use in complex, difficult, and/or unprecedented cases.
Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the capability to work as part of a team in a professional manner are required, as is a service oriented attitude.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, and/or Information Technology.
Experience in SQL programming.
Experience in a higher education environment.
Experience with ERP systems utilized in higher education, preferably with Ellucian’s Banner system.
