Position Summary: The Assistant Director, Foundation Accounting and Financial Reporting, at New Jersey Institute of Technology, under the direction of the AVP, General Accounting, is responsible for all aspects of the accounting and financial reporting of the Foundation at New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Assistant Director is also responsible for the stewardship and oversight of all New Jersey Institute of Technology restricted gift funds and Title IV funds, and functions as the liaison to the university community for such funds. The Assistant Director manages the daily accounting operations of Foundation at New Jersey Institute of Technology and oversees the restricted funds and endowment funds staff.
Essential Functions: - Assists the AVP, General Accounting to provide the business framework to ensure compliance with policies and procedures as well as donor restrictions and applicable accounting standards. - Manages the daily accounting functions of Foundation at New Jersey Institute of Technology, including journal entry review and approval as well as effective oversight over account analyses and reconciliations. - Oversees the restricted funds and endowment funds staff. - Responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of the Foundation's endowment and the university's and Foundation's investments. - Prepares annual external financial statements, including the basic financial statements, management's discussion and analysis, and notes to the statements. - Responsible for the oversight of Fundriver, the Foundation's endowment accounting software; oversees the annual endowment distribution calculation. - Ensures restricted accounts are utilized in accordance with the donor restrictions. - Ensures Raisers Edge (fundraising and donor management software) and Banner Finance are in sync. - Oversees fund set-up, oversight, and stewardship of all Foundation funds and University's restricted funds, including Title IV funds.
Additional Functions: - Assists in the development of accounting policies and procedures to improve the internal control structure and to implement best practices. - Interfaces with external auditors; responds to their informational and documentation requirements. - Implements new Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements as they relate to the Foundation at New Jersey Institute of Technology. - Completes various surveys. - Liaison with Development and Alumni Relations. - Performs as manager of, or a primary contributor to, special projects that arise from time to time, with the objective of completing each project efficiently and effectively and, if the project is the precursor to a recurring activity, of establishing appropriate policies and procedures for the future work requirements. - Recommends enhancements to Banner Finance and COGNOS reports in order to enhance the usefulness of the system and the value of the information it provides. - Prepares management reports, both periodic and on an as-needed basis. - Performs such other tasks as are needed from time to time.
Prerequisite Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or Management. - Minimum of five years of progressive, relevant accounting, financial reporting, and management experience. - Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, particularly as it relates to fund accounting and endowment accounting. - Experience in the preparation of management reports and external financial statements. - Knowledge of the functioning of accounting systems and of the techniques of financial analysis and project management. - Excellent oral and written communications skills. - At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred. CPA/MBA desirable. - Minimum of five years of progressive accounting, financial reporting, and management experience, preferably in a governmental or not-for-profit setting. - Knowledge of/experience with Banner Finance, COGNOS, Fundriver, Raisers Edge. Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards.
