Wilmington College, located in Southwest Ohio, is currently seeking qualified candidates for the full time position of Controller in the Business Office on the main campus.
The Controller is responsible for the College's accounting practices and policies fiscal controls maintenance of fiscal records and the preparation of financial statements, reports, and financial analysis. The Controller oversees general ledger, contribution and grant accounting, financial reporting and cash management. Responsibilities include:
Responsible for the integrity of the College's financial systems, transactions, records and reports. Develops, recommends, documents and implements financial and accounting plans, policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure that the College's resources are appropriately controlled and recorded in accordance with GAAP and federal and state laws and regulations.
Responsible for the production of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and related reports, as well as ad hoc financial reports and analyses for internal and external users, including senior management and the Board of Trustees, to support institutional financial and strategic decision making.
Ensures adequacy of cash flow to meet College's needs while minimizing use of line of credit and maximizing the investment of excess cash. Develops and maintains cash flow projections and reports weekly on actual results to the Vice President for Business and Finance. Maintains primary cash management banking relationship.
Ensures that the ongoing financial commitments of the College are handled in a timely and accurate basis through regular supervision of the various disbursement functions and internal controls.
Manages the functions relating the College's restricted cash and endowment/investment portfolio, ensuring that endowment gifts received are transferred to the investment account in a timely manner and in accordance with policies, that the appropriate fund balances are created and maintained in accordance with donor intentions, that the unitization methodology is consistently applied across funds, and that endowment spending is in accordance with the spending policy and Board of Trustees approval.
Plans and coordinates the annual external audit of the College's financial statements.
Performs key research and planning functions related to the design and upgrading of information systems for assigned areas of responsibility. Fully utilize technology and efficient and effective business practices in the design and delivery of services.
Directs the implementation of ideas for process improvement, automation and resource utilization.
Treats all fellow employees, students and the College's guests with civility and refrains from actions that disrupt the efficient functioning of the College.
Follows directions and completes tasks accurately and accepts supervisory input and constructive criticism.
Able to manage stress and work under pressure while multitasking under deadlines.
Able to supervise and be supervised, giving and accepting constructive criticism.
Keeps abreast of current developments in GAAP, state and federal governmental regulations and higher education practices related to accounting and fiscal matters. Attends various professional meetings and conferences.
Attends meetings and participates on committees as assigned.
Participates in strategic initiatives as requested.
Maintain current knowledge of tax regulations and other government requirement and guidelines, and modify/recommend modifications of college accounting policies/procedures/systems to ensure compliance.
Confer regularly with the Vice President for Business and Finance and other College personnel to plan, coordinate and evaluate activities/systems/policies, exchange information, investigate and resolve problems, and/or provide technical assistance on accounting matters. Serve on various College committees.
Represent the College to a variety of financial institutions, government agencies, external auditors and others as needed.
Prepare 990 tax return and all payroll tax monthly and quarterly returns. Review all tax filings.
Reconcile accounts maintained for bond issues and employee annuity accounts.
Performs other related duties and/or special projects as required and/or assigned.
Related Master's degree, plus at least three years of responsible related experience. CPA desirable.
Experience in Higher education or Non Profit Organization as a Controller or from experience in public accounting.
Evidence of management experience in a broad range of related activities.
Evidence of excellent writing skills and ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
Willingness to become an integral part of the college community and the community at large.
Ability to plan and implement projects with a college-wide impact.
Demonstrated organizational ability and ability to lead and supervise staff to achieve effective operations and provide necessary services.
Knowledge of emerging and conceptual/theoretical ideas related to the profession.
Background in budget development and ability to effectively control budgetary expenditures.
Experience in higher education highly desirable.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products especially Excel and PowerPoint.
Experienced in ERP technology and systems including system architectural conversions.
