The Degree Audit & Academic Advising Specialist supports the Office of the Registrar and works closely with the Chief Academic Advisor to ensure the accuracy and integrity of student academic records. This role is responsible for conducting degree audits using DegreeWorks and other tools, verifying graduation eligibility, assisting students with academic planning, and collaborating with academic departments to resolve degree requirement issues in a timely and compliant manner. The position also contributes to advising initiatives across campus.
(Campus-specific Information and duties)
Conducts comprehensive degree audits using DegreeWorks to verify completion of general education, major, subplan, minor, and elective requirements.
Reviews and processes substitutions and/or waivers to ensure accurate application toward degree requirements.
Identifies degree deficiencies and communicates findings clearly to students, advisors, and academic departments.
Assists with graduation clearance processes, including final degree audits and preparation for degree conferral.
Advises students on academic planning and degree requirements.
Reviews DegreeWorks audits with students to promote understanding of degree progress and remaining requirements.
Responds to student inquiries via email, in-person, or virtual meeting sessions.
Collaborates with the Registrar, advising units, catalog team, and academic departments to interpret academic policies and catalog requirements.
Partners with the DegreeWorks team to ensure accurate degree requirements are reflected.
Provides frontline support during peak registration and graduation periods.
Maintains compliance with FERPA and institutional record-keeping standards.
Creates and facilitates pre-advising resources for new students, including videos, checklists, and virtual sessions.
Develop college-wide Student Success Workshops.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills with strong attention-to-detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service.
Experience using DegreeWorks or similar degree audit systems.
Experience in a college Registrar?s Office and or advising unit in higher education.
Familiarity with PeopleSoft or similar Student Information System, DegreeWorks or similar graduation audit system, Scheduler Builder, and Navigate, preferred.
Knowledge of CUNY academic policies and degree requirements.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Coordinates registration services such as grade collection entries and changes, publication of semester course offerings, final examination schedules, classroom scheduling and requests for student information
Promotes policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations; advises College personnel regarding the development and implementation of responses to regulatory changes
Oversees the conformity of record release procedures to management policies and legal requirements, including the Family Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable laws and regulations governing the confidentiality of student records
Creates and reviews student communications from the Registrar's Office; ensures transcript and Degree verification requests are handled in a timely manner
Recommends and implements improvements to office operations; assists with strategic planning
Prepares reports and analyses on registration activities
May train faculty and staff on retention techniques, record-keeping protocol and/or registration systems
May supervise office operations and/or department budget

Salary Range: $82,663 - $86,741. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
